The worst Mississippi River flooding in decades is now upon the southern part of the United Sates. Floodwaters have already decimated thousands of homes, farms, and workplaces and now floods are threatening the low-lying areas of Louisiana. Approximately 25,000 people in Cajun Country are bracing for floodwaters to go as deep as 25 feet. Attempting to keep floods from hitting Baton Rouge and New Orleans, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers opened up nine gates on that spillway. Some 3,000 square miles of land are projected to flood.
