M.U.S.D. Hunger Food Drive a Success!

The Montebello Unified School District’s 1st Annual War on Hunger Food Drive a Success! Lead by the Honorable Gerri Guzman, School Board President of the Montebello Unified Scholl District, the War on Hunger committee coordinated a food drive to include 29 schools in the district to collect non-perishable food items to be distributed the MUSD community.

From September 21, 2009- October 9, 2009, over 20,000 pounds of canned and dry goods were collected by the students a faculty of the Montebello Unified School District! Cindy Olivares, a student at Vail High School, collected 120 canned goods all by herself! Camino Credit Union, a sponsor of the War on Hunger Food Drive, provided Cindy with a few great prizes for her efforts in support of the continued fight against hunger!

The Honorable Gerri Guzman states ”There’s a real need in the Montebello Unified School District community and it remains our responsibility to help our neighbors.”

Roger Presgrove, President of Help the Children, said he’s very appreciative of the efforts of such a committed group. He said that the War on Hunger Food Drive was the “Largest school sponsored food drive in the history of Help the Children”.

Linda Camacho, President of the Montebello PTA, and War on Hunger committee member states “the Montebello PTA is a dynamic group dedicated to working together to provide every opportunity for MUSD residents to receive help when they need it. The1st Annual War on Huger Food Drive provided a vehicle to collect much needed food items and have them available for people in need.”
